Review of
Circus
by sstrider:
Vincent
plays Shawn in this pilot for a weekly serial called "Circus."
He is a normal young man who is the
son of midgets and has always lived in the circus. The story reminded me
of the television program, "Promised Land" which was very
family oriented. The main topic of the program seemed to be the people
who worked in the circus were all a core family. Many have enjoyed an
entire lifetime together.
Shawn was the young manager
of the circus. Conrad Simpson, the owner of the circus, gave this job to
Shawn
partly because Simpson’s own son had left the circus some years
before. The circus was suffering from financial problems mainly because
there weren’t as many people coming to the circus as there had been
years before. Employees talked to Conrad asking him to raise the price
of admission and of items that were sold to the audience. He refused to
raise the prices, saying that he wanted to keep things the way they had
always been. Everyone seemed to know about these problems except Mr.
Simpson. Things were so bad that they had to let three employees go.
There was a
young boy, Jason, about five years old. He worked with his
grandfather
as a clown. Jason’s parents had been trapeze artists who lost
their lives while working on the trapeze without a net. His grandfather
had been caring for him since his parents died. All the people in
the circus had been keeping an eye on Jason, too.
Mr. Simpson’s son, Scott, came back to the circus because he heard that
they were having financial problems. Scott had gone to Tuscon to get an
education. His major in college was marketing. He came back to offer to
help his father get the circus back on its feet.
He wanted to replace all the old games on the midway with video games. He
also was going to team up with other investors to buy out Mr. Simpson.
Conrad didn’t like this idea at all. He didn’t want to give up
something that had been his whole life.
Jason watched
the new trapeze artist practicing for the next show. He became very
frightened and ran away. Everyone in the circus pulled together and
searched for Jason. The police found him at a school and his grandfather
went to get him and bring him home. He told Jason that he missed Jason’s
mother and father, too. He told him that they were family and that he
would always be there for Jason.
Scott
ran into a woman who looked very familiar to him. He finally figured out
that this women’s
name was Jen and that she had run away from her family who was very rich.
Her family had been searching for her for quite a while. Shawn overheard
this conversation. He confronted Jen the next day and she was afraid that
he was going to tell her folks where she was. Shawn assured her that her
secret was safe with him because they were "family."
I found this to be a pleasant program which would be something that you
could enjoy watching with your children. Can’t find too many of programs
like that these days.
