Sentinel [Vanishing Act] Click on pictures for larger size Jim (the Sentinel) works for the Cascade Police Department. He has a special gift. He is able to hear things being said that others can’t. As Jim and his partner Blair are taking a walk, Jim sees Gordon Abbott. The only problem is Gordon Abbott has been presumed dead for years. Jim and Blair chase him but lose him. They go back to the police department and report the sighting to the police chief who thinks they are crazy. He knows that Gordon Abbott used to work for a company owned by the prominent Prosky crime family. By the time Abbott found out it was a money laundering business, the cops were already closing in. At the time, Dan Singleton was a man of power in the Cascade police department and worked closely with Jim. He picked up Abbott and threw him in jail on racketeering charge. While Abbott was in jail, his wife and son were killed in a car bombing. Abbott testified against old man John Prosky and put him away for life. The day after John Prosky was sent down the river, Abbott was stabbed to death by a fellow inmate. Three years later Prosky hanged himself in his jail cell. Everyone lost except for Prosky’s son Nick (Vincent Irizarry) and Dan Singleton. Nick took over the business for his father. Mr. Singleton hit the jackpot. He now runs the federal prosecutor’s office in Cascade.
Jim has a picture of Gordon’s wife and son at a hockey game the week before. So now he knows the three of them are still alive. Gordon’s wife was at the hockey game with Terry Schneider who was a very close friend of Gordon’s. Mrs. Abbott goes to school to pick up her son. She sees him on the sidewalk, but a car goes by slowly and then he is gone. Jim and Blair were right behind her, so they take off to try to catch the car that picked up the boy. As they are a few yards away, the car stop and lets the boy out in the middle of the road. Jim and Blair go home with Mrs. Abbott. She finally tells them she knows her husband is alive and is supposed to meet him at 3:00. Shortly after that Jim finds the house is bugged and realizes someone has heard the whole conversation. He calls in some additional police to watch the mother and child while he and Blair go to meet Abbott. The son is sent away to stay with a close friend. While Mrs. Abbott is under close guard, Mr. Singleton comes to the house. The police who are guarding them let him in and Mr. Singleton’s men shoot the policemen and kidnap Mrs. Abbott. They take her to the junkyard. In the meantime, Gordon meets with Jim. He doesn’t trust Jim, but is finally convinced that the family will be able to be together again. Gordon is then shot and his shoulder is wounded. Jim and the shooter trade shots. Gordon disappears. Abbott shows up at the police department and says he will talk to Jim. Jim convinces him to work with the police. When they are finished talking, Singleton comes in and asks to speak with Abbott. They let him go in, and Singleton shows Abbott his wife’s keychain. He realizes that his wife has been kidnapped. Jim and Abbott find out that the wife has been taken to the junkyard and rush there to help her. She is in an abandoned car. Prosky apprehends Abbott and takes him to where his wife is and threatens to kill them. Jim sees them and opens fire on Prosky. Abbott and his wife are able to get away. Prosky, however, is caught. He jumps in his car and tries to get away, but Blair has gotten behind the controls of a crane which is used to pick up the junk cars and put them on the crusher. Blair grabs the car that Nick is in foiling his get-away. This was an entertaining show. Vincent does a wonderful job of being a really nasty bad guy. Index Home This
