Mindy
came home to patch up her relationship with Nick just as he was
surprising Eve with two tickets to the Caribbean. Eve warned Mindy to
stay away from Nick. Later, Eve found photos of Nick with Mindy, and Ed
watched as Eve ripped them to shreds. Mindy later found the pictures Eve
had tried to destroy. Nick confronted Eve, who denied any involvement.
Ed
caught Eve trying to break into Mindy's medical records and threatened
to suspend her. After a fight with Mindy at the Towers, Eve smashed her
own windshield with a shovel and claimed Mindy had done it. Nick stood
by Eve but began to doubt her when she donned a blond wig and dressed up
like Mindy for a date with him. When Nick caught Eve lying about Mindy,
he broke up with her, which sent Eve on a rampage. At a bridal fashion
show to mark Mindy's return as a designer, Eve drugged Mindy's water
bottle, and Mindy got into an
accident while driving home with little Billy (her brother). Nick found
evidence linking Eve to the crash, but it disappeared before the police
investigation. Eve tried to attach Mindy at the lighthouse. When Nick
and Ed arrived, Eve threatened to jump off the observation deck. Ed
talked her down and took her to a psychiatric center for treatment.
After Billy and Vanessa's wedding, Nick and Mindy rediscovered their
romantic feelings and made love.
Ed helped Eve get released from the psychiatric center and offered her
his garage
apartment to live in and helped her get her job back at Cedars. Nick and
Mindy got into a fight when Mindy questioned whether Eve had really
recovered. Mindy accepted a date with detective Macauley West. Eve
spotted them kissing and told Nick, who thought he'd lost Mindy. When
Macauley asked her to go to Chicago with him, Mindy said no and made up
with Nick.
David
found himself mired in the ugly race relations on Fifth Street. After
finding Stavros beaten on the floor of the diner and witnessing Vinny
Morrison threatening Kat and taunting her with racial slurs, David got
into a vicious fight with Vinny that ended with Vinny falling on his
knife and dying. Fearful he would be arrested because of his criminal
record, David fled. Kat went on the run with him, and Hamp filed
kidnapping charges against David. David
confessed to Kat that he'd been convicted six years before for
accidentally killing a man named Davenport. Gilly later said she
actually killed Davenport, who was running the escort service for which
she worked, and David had taken the rap to protect his sister. Macauley
West, the arresting officer in the case, came back to Springfield after
Nick questioned him about
Gilly's confession. Nick was suspicious of Macauley's interest in the
case. He also didn't like Macauley's interest in Mindy, especially when
she seemed to return his affections. Mindy found a picture of Macauley
with a mysterious woman, and Nick and Harley started searching for her.
Mallet finally caught up with David and Kat. Nick and Harley discovered
that Davenport's murderer was really the woman in the picture, Norrie
Ryan, sister of Police Chief Ryan and Macauley's wife at the time.
Ross cleared David of Vinny's murder.
Alan-Michael realized he needed Alex's expertise to get back Spaulding.
Nick learned Alex's yacht had been shipwrecked and Alex was listed as
missing. Fletcher finally tracked down Alex (now played by Marj Dusay)
in Singapore and just missed catching her at the airport as she headed
back to Springfield. Alex was shocked when she slipped back into her bed
at the mansion and found Jenna and Roger in it! Alex stormed out, but
not before vowing to get back her family home and company.
Alex was delighted when Nick decided to change his name to Spaulding,
but she was crushed when he asked Mindy to be his wife. Just before
their engagement party, Bess set up a secret meeting with Roger, who
never showed. During the party, Lucy found a pool of blood in the
country club potting shed. Tests showed it belonged to Roger, who was
nowhere to be found. Alex became the prime suspect when her bracelet was
found in the shed and Mindy said she'd seen blood on Alex's dress. Jenna
almost had a miscarriage upon learning of Roger's disappearance and was
taken to the hospital. Just then, a visitor showed up at Holly's -- it
was Roger!
(And we thought only PV parties were disasters, LOL)
1994
Roger was arrested for fraud for his part in helping Jenna get
Spaulding. Roger told the police that Billy (Mindy's father) was
the one who shot him. Nick found Billy's gun in a golf bag and told only
Mindy that he had it. Billy asked Ross to defend him, but Ross was
unwilling to jeopardize his relationship with Blake (Roger's daughter).
Mindy told the family that Nick had Billy's gun, and they decided to
turn it in. They were confident it wouldn't match the bullet Eve had
extracted from Roger. When it did match, Nick and Vanessa suspected
Roger had framed Billy to get custody of Peter.
Tangie (played by Marcy Walker) told Roger she would expose their past
(he had bought her at age 15!) unless he dropped the charges against
Billy. Roger retorted that her parents had been spies and that he saved
her life by taking her in. Meanwhile, Nick and Eve found the real
bullet. Roger agreed to drop the charges against Billy, but only if Alex
dropped the fraud charges against him. Roger went free, but Billy stayed
in jail when he said that he had really shot Roger. He was sentenced to
nine years.
Fletcher
distracted Alex from Nick and Mindy's impending wedding by whisking her
away to a romantic island. Upon their return, Nick turned over his share
of the Journal to Fletcher, since it would be a conflict of interest for
him to have both the paper and WSPR, which Alex had given him. Alex then
gave the Spaulding mansion to Nick as an engagement gift. Alan-Michael
pushed Alex to make him president of Spaulding. She agreed but changed
her mind when she learned of his plan to go behind her back to buy WSPR
from Nick and give it to Gilly.
When Alex went to confront her son about the WSPR affair, she was
stunned to find him at the Lewises marrying Mindy! Vanessa kicked Alex
out after Alex blasted Nick, and Nick and Mindy wed despite the
interruption.
Nick warned Alex that
someone was trying to steal her position as CEO of Spaulding. Roger
tried to find out who was behind the threat, hoping to join forces
with them to regain control of Spaulding. Roger had no clue that Mr.
Tashiwa, the person he'd discovered was trying to take over Spaulding,
was really Alan (released early from prison). Disguised as Tashiwa, Alan
arranged a meeting at WSPR, where he asked for Roger's help in his quest
for Spaulding. Roger claimed he could deliver Alex. Alan later sent a
dinner invitation to
Holly and Roger that they thought was from Alex. After battling
with Alan about Spaulding, Alex returned to the mansion and found Holly
and Roger. She had them arrested for breaking and entering. Holly got
Alex to drop the charges by threatening to tell Nick and Fletcher that
Alex had faked an illness to get Nick more involved at Spaulding. Both
men found out the news anyway. Nick was understanding, but a furious
Fletcher broke off his relationship with Alex.
Alan revealed that Alex,
Vanessa and Blake had control of his assets and that he was determined
to get them back. He then wanted his son (Alan-Michael) to take over the
Spaulding presidency. Meanwhile, Alex was planning to make Nick
president. Alan had his henchwoman, Susan (NOT the Susan Nick later
married), drug Nick while he was in the Bahamas on business. Susan then
made a video of herself and Nick in what appeared to be a very
compromising position. The next day Nick awoke to find a fake newspaper
saying that Susan had been killed. The police pinned the crime on him,
but Alex sent Buzz to sneak Nick out of the country before he could face
the charges. Alex thought the matter was behind them until Alan showed
up at the board meeting, video in hand. Nick was voted in as president
anyway.
Nick saw Susan alive in Springfield and realized he'd been set up. Jenna
helped Vanessa steal the incriminating tape of her and Matt from Alan.
Alex turned to Roger to help her defeat Alan and he told her she should
let Alan have what he wanted because he was dying. Alex was stunned and
wanted to help her brother. She got Blake's share of the assets, but
Vanessa was not so easily swayed. Alex persuaded Nick to help her
sabotage Lewis Oil so that Vanessa would be forced to sign everything
over in order to save the company. Mindy learned of this and
walked out on Nick. Alex encouraged Nick to give up Spaulding and work
on his marriage.
